LONGTAN PARK

YINZAISHAN
There are many entrances to Yinzaishan through communities off of Liushi Road or Hangyin Road. See the map in the Map Section.

Yinzaishan contains several unofficial hiking trails and rural mountain farms. There are several entrances, but all the trails do connect and I believe one could hike all the way into Longtan Park from Maanshan if one had the time and stamina.

The mountain peaks are rocky and the trails up are not paved but mud or rock. The area also has a great many tombs.

Climbing Time: 45 minutes + to do any mountain, but the whole area could take 1-2 days to explore
Type of Trail: Some cement steps, but mostly boulders, placed rocks, and dirt trails
Difficulty: Difficult
Notable features: Good views, isolation, Daoist graves, farms

WEST LONGTAN MOUNTAINS
This chain of mountains is accessible from several points in the park, plus the west entrance. See the map page.

This rocky set of mountains is set up in a chain and it is possible to hike all 5 main mountains in a few hours, then continue on to connect with Youshan. It has some nice views and challenging bouldering sections, and is quite a bit more wild than the manicured trails in the park. The tops of mountains sometimes have huts with recliners and small gardens.

Climbing TIme: 60 minutes +
Type of Trails: Dirt and rocks
Difficulty: Difficult
Notable Features: Some painted rocks in the far west mountain and some good views.

YOUSHAN
(SEDAN HILL)
Youshan is the largest mountain in Longtan Park with panoramic views of the park and most of the city. The entrance to the main trail up Youshan is on the south side of the Swimming Pool on the west side of Longtan Park.
You should notice this mountain really has an incredible amount and variety of butterflies in the summer. Once you reach the top of the mountain the trail splits, with options to go to two different peaks. The south peak is more natural and has a large boulder you can climb up on with purple flowers among the rocks. The north peak has a pagoda, but also a trail through the bushes that takes you further along the ridge. One area has tables cut out of the rock, while others have platforms you can stand on to get good views.

You can connect to other mountains from this hike; the mountain to the south is called the Virgin Peak and to the north is the West Longtan Mountains. To connect to either takes advanced climbing skills.

Climbing Time: 60+ minutes
Type of Trail: Cement steps
Difficulty: Normal
Notable features: Pagoda at the top, incredible views, stone tables

VIRGIN PEAK
Connect with this mountain either from a trail that comes out in the woods near the entrance to Youshan, from a trail that branches off of the Youshan trail midway up, or by climbing down a cliff and along a rock ledge from Youshan.
This mountain's views are average, but it has two incredible cave tunnels that the trail flows through. One leads up to where there is a Daoist grave on the south side, one of the neatest details in the park.

Climbing Time: 60+ minutes
Type of Trail: Rock and dirt trails
Difficulty: Difficult
Notable features: Two cave tunnels

FACE UPWARD
LION HILL
Access this mountain with a staircase near the entrance to the covered bridge at the southern part of Longtan Park. A second rough trail entrance is part of the trail to the Virgin Peak and the Prison Mountains.

This mountain has good views of the cherry blossom trees, the lawns and the covered bridge, but otherwise the trail is uninteresting. However, the trail coming down the mountain on the north side is challenging and a good climb.

Climbing Time: 30-40 minutes
Type of Trail: Cement steps, or rock and dirt.
Difficulty: Normal / Difficult
Notable features: Nice view of the southern part of the park.

CESHAN
(THUNDER HILL)
Located in the north park of Longtan Park, you can hike the hill in a loop, as there are paths up and over on two sides. It gives a reasonable view of part of the lake, but doesn’t really have the spectacular views that other mountains in Longtan Park offer.

Climbing Time: 20-30 minutes
Type of Trail: Cement steps
Difficulty: Normal
Notable features: None

Lover's Peak
Connect with this mountain either from a steep trail starting in the Longtan Park Parking lot or from a connecting trail from the East Longtan Mountains via the park.
This mountain's views are good but the biggest detail is how difficult this one is to climb. It isn't as tall as nearby mountains, but it is rocky and steep, with two separate peaks you can climb, the first being larger and close to the park entrance, and the second being farther away, shorter, quite skinny, and almost too difficult to climb.

Climbing Time: 60+ minutes
Type of Trail: Rock trails
Difficulty: Very, Very Difficult
Notable features: High technical skill needed.

4/5

PEACOCK HILL
Next to Tortoise Hill, you access this mountain by climbing up to a pagoda located at the pass between Peacock and Tortoise. Once there, look for a sign that says no climbing and proceed up from there. There is also a second path up a dry stream bed a few meters down the path. This hill is rugged and difficult to summit - special care should be taken near the top, as it is quite narrow and there is a path that is quite steep.

Climbing Time: 60+ minutes
Type of Trail: Cement steps and Rock trails
Difficulty: Very Difficult
Notable features: Good view

MIRROR HILL
Access this mountain using one of the 3 staircases up. It lies in the very center of the park.

This mountain is not incredibly tall but has a large three-wave cave tunnel underneath it. As well, the 'mirror' rock formation near the top makes this one of the best mountains in the park. Insta-bait!

Climbing Time: 20 minutes
Type of Trail: Cement steps, dirt and stones.
Difficulty: Normal
Notable features: Fantastic views, cave tunnel and 'mirror' formation.

4.5/5

On the edge of the East Longtan Mountains is Tortoise Hill, accessible from a pagoda area in a pass between Peacock and Tortoise Hills.

Climbing Time: 60 minutes+
Type of Trail: Cement steps and Rock trails.
Difficulty: Very Difficult
Notable features: Good View, Recent landslides in the area may have made this mountain no longer summitable or at least increased the danger.

EAST LONGTAN MOUNTAINS
This group of mountains can be accessed from inside the park and also trails leading from communities outside the park. See the map page.

This area has a series of mountains connected in a chain, plus several others standing independently. The views are nice but the climbing in this area is difficult, and there are sections where you may have to climb up or down a wall three meters in height. This area is much more difficult than other mountains in the park.

The highlight are the numerous caves and tunnels in the southern mountains of the chain.

Climbing time: 60 minutes +
Type of trail: Mostly Rocks
Difficulty: Very Difficult
Notable features: The east side of each mountain acts as a graveyard for dozens of family Daoist shrines. In the south there are two very large cave tunnels, including one that opens up on a cliffside.

SMALL LONGTAN HILL
Access the park from the corner of Longtan Road and Liushi Road.
The hill is next to a public bathroom and part of a small park. It takes a short time to climb up to the pagoda, but if one wants there are trails behind that lead back towards a small mountain where you will find many Daoist graves and more difficult hiking and bouldering. It may be possible to climb up the mountain itself but it would take an expert.

Climbing Time: 5-10 minutes or 20-30 minutes
Type of Trail: Cement steps and mud and boulders
Difficulty:Normal, Difficult
Notable features: Pagoda, Daoist graves

SHISHAN TRAIL
The easiest way to access the trail in by entering the Shishan community from Liushi Road north of the Longtan Road intersection.
From one side of the community a trail leads up the side of the mountain, then goes along about half way up to the other side. Each side has its own viewing platform, and below the edge of the mountain is a cement stream and some gardens.

Climbing Time: 15-20 Minutes
Type of Trail: Cement steps
Difficulty: Normal
Notable features: Nice Views of the rooftops with mountains in the background, and pleasant community gardens. Several caves make the walk interesting too.
