Malushan

Malushan is a large mountain with good views of the new developing city. Malushan Park contains grassy areas, a small lake, a tourism village, and many paths through the park. This park is not nearly as interesting as Liuzhou’s other major parks, however. The top looks out mostly to the North-East. There is a secondary lookout point closer to the top that looks west that takes expert hiking to get to because you go beyond the safety barrier.

Climbing Time: 30-40 minutes
Type of Trail: Cement steps

University Hill

This forested hill is difficult to get to because it sits inside the Guangxi Science and Technology University campus, which only has entrances on the west and south sides. At the bottom is a small pond, and at the top is a silver science-themed installation, which is the hill’s big attraction.

Lushan

Lushan is a small but very steep mountain attached to a small park. The trails go up a few stories, but never go up into the mountain itself, which contains the nests of large birds of prey. The trails circle around the mountains several times, with small pagodas on the North West and South East sides. The views are mostly blocked by trees.

Climbing Time: 5-10 minutes
Type of Trail: Cement steps

Xianle Laoren Park

These mountains have newly built pagodas and cement trails. Their 360 degree views make them some of the nicest mountains in Liuzhou. Entering from Shewan Road, you can take several trails that all eventually go up the mountain. A smaller hill, the one with the best view of the river and Huanjintun farming village, is the furthest east, while two larger mountains are to the west. These are taller and have areas where you can climb to beyond the regular trail which are quite safe and also provide amazing views in all directions. A small pagoda is part way up the mountain farthest to the west, and this mountain is also decorated with painted petroglyph-style art at the peak.

There are other mountains to the north that are connected to the main trails. You can mountain climb up them on the south side or make your way up the hundreds of family shrines on the north side.
